August 16, 2017 <br />Item5c. <br />Essay Contest Timeline <br />Background <br />At the July 19, 2017 meeting, the Commission finalized the 2017-18 Essay Contest question. <br />Disparities such as racism, sexism and ageism among others are still occurring today. <br />Define and discuss one disparity and explain what you think the underlying cause is. What <br />can be done to address it? Include personal and/or sourced examples. <br />This contest is open to all students in sixth, seventh and eighth grade living in the city of <br />Roseville or attending a school in the Roseville Area School District, including students who are <br />home schooled. Staff has sent principals of the following schools a letter asking that they <br />encourage their teachers to announce the contest and distribute the rules, entry forms and <br />copies of the question to interested students. <br />King of Kings Lutheran School <br />Parkview Center School <br />Roseville Area Middle School <br />St. Jerome School <br />St. John the Evangelist School <br />St.Odilia School <br />St. Rose of Lima School <br />Emmet D Williams School <br />Edgerton School <br />Falcon Heights Elementary School <br />Little Canada Elementary School <br />Central Park Elementary School <br />In addition, this information is posted on the Citys website, the News Update, and the Citys <br />social media, and is typically covered in the Roseville Review. <br />Attached are the contest rules, entry form, a sample letter sent to principals, last years rubric <br />rating sheet, as well as a tentative timeline for the Commission. <br />Requested Action <br />Review the timeline and any changes that need to be made to it. <br /> <br />
