Policies and Standards <br />The policies (bold) and standards were developed to guide the City in the development of <br />Roseville's pathway network. They are detailed statements that aid in the resolution of the <br />previously defined pathway issues. The intent of this section is to define the minimum standardsfor <br />pathway facilities in Roseville. In certain instances it maybe necessary to increase the standards in <br />order to provide a safe and efficient facility for the community. Standards that were left undefined <br />in this document are defined by MNDOT pathway guidelines. <br />Pathwav types. <br />BL = Bicycle Lane; A Portion of a roadwav designed for exelusive use by people using hieveles. <br />Bike lanes are distinguished from the Portion of the roadwav used for motor vehiele trade by <br />Phvsieal harrier or stripine and Pavement markings. The widths of these lanes vary between 5- <br />10 feet, devendine on speed andAveraee DadV TYaffie on the road. <br />SL = Shared Lane; Any roadway upon which a hievele lane is not designated and which may he <br />leeally used by hieveles whether or not sueh faeility is speei$ealli, designated as a hikeway. The <br />standard driving lane is to he shared between vehieles and light trate. <br />WOL = Wide Outside Lane;Anv roadwav upon which a hievele lane is not designated and <br />which may he leeally used by hieveles whether or not sueh faeility is speei$ealli, designated as a <br />hikeway. A widened outside drivine lane. 14 feet or 2reater, is to he shared between vehicles <br />and hieveles. <br />T=TIaiLAn of( -road Pathwav that is S- 12 feet wide that is generally shared use, designed for the <br />use ofhieveles, in-line skaters and Pedestrians. <br />SS = Striped Shoulder,A Portion at the edge of Paved road surface that is contiguous with the <br />road surface and separated by striping atleast 4 feet wide. <br />LOCATION <br />1. Inventory and acquire rights-of-way that have become available. <br />1.1. Where possible use available rights-of-way first. Use shared rights-of-way second. <br />1.2. Purchase private rights-of-way last. <br />1.3.
