I Human Rights, Inclusion and Engagement Commission <br /> 2 Meeting Minutes <br /> 3 DRAFT — March 21, 2018 - DRAFT <br /> 4 <br /> 5 <br /> 6 Commissioners Present: Lisa Carey, Etienne Djevi, John Eichenlaub, Wayne Groff, Chelsea <br /> 7 Holub, Michelle Manke, and, Lauren Peterson <br /> 8 <br /> 9 Youth Commissioners Elizabeth Hansel and Acer Iverson <br /> 10 Present: <br /> 11 <br /> 12 Commissioners Absent: Nicole Dailey and James Ryerson, both excused <br /> 13 <br /> 14 Staff Present: Rebecca Olson, Assistant City Manager <br /> 15 <br /> 16 <br /> 17 Call to Order/Roll Call <br /> 18 <br /> 19 The Human Rights, Inclusion, and Engagement Commission (HRIEC) meeting was called to <br /> 20 order at 6:33 p.m. Chair Holub requested roll call. <br /> 21 <br /> 22 <br /> 23 Approve Agenda <br /> 24 <br /> 25 Commissioner Groff moved and Commissioner Eichenlaub seconded a motion to approve the <br /> 26 Agenda as presented. Motion passed unanimously. <br /> 27 <br /> 28 <br /> 29 Public Comment on Items Not on The Agenda <br /> 30 <br /> 31 Beth Yewhalawork, 398 Minnesota Avenue, commented she sees tobacco prevention as a human <br /> 32 rights issue and everyone deserves access to good health. She provided examples on how the <br /> 33 tobacco industry targets certain communities. <br /> 34 <br /> 35 Katie Engman, 1413 Eldridge Avenue West, commented she has dedicated her career to tobacco <br /> 36 prevention. For the first time in 17 years, youth tobacco use rates have increased. Raising the age <br /> 37 to purchase tobacco from 18 to 21 is a proven method to reduce tobacco use among young <br /> 38 people. The City is considering an ordinance to do so, and she requested the Commission support <br /> 39 this effort. <br /> 40 <br /> 41 <br /> 42 Approve Minutes <br /> 43 <br /> 44 a.
