all of them during the flyoverpopulationcount.She hascounted 15 deer on her property at <br />one time. <br />Commissioner Bole reiterated that the deer population in his yard destroyed his raspberry <br />bushes.He conveyed that he feels arecommendation should be made to the City Council to <br />reduce the deer population. <br />Commissioner Quick questioned how long the reduction effort would take,as he stated <br />concernsthata 50% reduction of population in one year could affect the biodiversity of <br />ecosystems. <br />Commissioner Gelbach askedif we could requestthe removal of injured deerby the USDA. <br />Staff commented that it would be difficult as the hunt is done at night via thermal imaging. <br />Commissioner Hoag inquiredif multiple locations could be utilizedfor the hunt,as he <br />seconded concern about removing too many deer from one location. Also, he questioned the <br />counts of Shoreview as many of the deer in northern Roseville would cross between the two <br />cities. <br />Commissioner Heikkila clarified that the intention would never be to wipe out the deer <br />populationinRoseville. <br />Commissioners Recommendation: <br />Commissioner Bole moved to recommendto the City Councilto move forward with a <br />removal of 20 deer in 2018/2019 and to continue with an ongoing reduction effort based <br />upon the analysis and survey numbers. Commissioner Warzecha seconds. Motion passed <br />unanimously. <br />5)PARK MAINTENANCE AND PROJECT REVIEW <br />MaintenanceSuperintendent,Jim Taylor,provided an overview ofthe 2017 maintenance <br />operations and an upcoming look at projects in 2018. <br />The 2017 projects included park planning at 2134 Cleveland Avenue, 1716 Marion Street <br />and the playground at Tamarack Park.Tree projects were completed at multiple parks <br />including tree removals, plantings and EAB treatments. The Natural Resource Renewal <br />Program had88 new volunteersin 2017.Maintenance projectsincluded:facility <br />improvements(painting, new roof),upgraded puppet wagon, Harriet Alexander Nature <br />Center (HANC) windows, new hockey goals, fountain repair, and maintenancefor recreation <br />programs. <br /> <br />
