Motion passed unanimously. 18 194)LEGISLATIVE PRIORITIES –GUIDANT JOHN ROSE MINNESOTA OVAL 20Staff providedabackgroundsummaryon the state funded dollars used to build and maintain 21theGuidant John Rose Minnesota OVAL. In 1992, 1.9 million dollars was provided fromthe 22State ofMinnesotato help build the OVAL facility. In addition, funding was provided from 23theState ofMinnesota in 2006 and 2008 totaling1.1 million dollars for Guidant John Rose 24Minnesota OVAL Capital Improvements. 25 26The bonding request willoccurduring the2020Legislative Session. Duringand prior tothe 27session,helpwill be needed from everyoneto communicate the need.Commissioner 28involvement isencouragedasthey arecomfortable and willing. Staff will make 29Commissionersaware of informationas it is available. 30 31Staff provided an overview of the previous projects that were completed with bonding 32dollars. The City has hired anengineer toassesscondition andneedstopotentiallyinclude in 33the 2020 request.In addition, user groups will provide information on items they would like 34included tohelpbring the facility up to today’s standards. 35 36Commissioner Newby asked what the strategy is to communicate need to targeted legislators. 37Staff confirmed thatworkwill be necessary with our local legislators, user groups and the 38Capital Bonding Committeein addition to meeting with the Governor. 39 40Commissioner Gelbach asked if they have scheduled meetings with legislators or if they just 41show up. Staff confirmed that both approaches wereutilized.
