Motion passed unanimously. <br />18 <br />194)LEGISLATIVE PRIORITIES –GUIDANT JOHN ROSE MINNESOTA OVAL <br />20Staff providedabackgroundsummaryon the state funded dollars used to build and maintain <br />21theGuidant John Rose Minnesota OVAL. In 1992, 1.9 million dollars was provided fromthe <br />22State ofMinnesotato help build the OVAL facility. In addition, funding was provided from <br />23theState ofMinnesota in 2006 and 2008 totaling1.1 million dollars for Guidant John Rose <br />24Minnesota OVAL Capital Improvements. <br />25 <br />26The bonding request willoccurduring the2020Legislative Session. Duringand prior tothe <br />27session,helpwill be needed from everyoneto communicate the need.Commissioner <br />28involvement isencouragedasthey arecomfortable and willing. Staff will make <br />29Commissionersaware of informationas it is available. <br />30 <br />31Staff provided an overview of the previous projects that were completed with bonding <br />32dollars. The City has hired anengineer toassesscondition andneedstopotentiallyinclude in <br />33the 2020 request.In addition, user groups will provide information on items they would like <br />34included tohelpbring the facility up to today’s standards. <br />35 <br />36Commissioner Newby asked what the strategy is to communicate need to targeted legislators. <br />37Staff confirmed thatworkwill be necessary with our local legislators, user groups and the <br />38Capital Bonding Committeein addition to meeting with the Governor. <br />39 <br />40Commissioner Gelbach asked if they have scheduled meetings with legislators or if they just <br />41show up. Staff confirmed that both approaches wereutilized. <br /> <br />
