Four divisions make up the department: <br />Engineering, Streets, Utilities (se�aer, water, and storm drainage) <br />and Code Enforcement. Expenditures specific to streets, utilities, <br />and code enforcement are included under those specific �rograms. <br />Subprogram: General Engineering <br />Objective: <br />To provide prompt, accurate, and courteous responses to questions <br />concerning Public Works program, facilities and records. Nearly <br />two-thirds of the Engineering Division's efforts are directed to <br />providing technical support to others, both inside and outside <br />City Government. <br />Subprogram: Project Engineering <br />Objective: <br />The objective of the project engineering program is to provide <br />quality in£rastructure improvements for the City in a timely, <br />cost-effective manner. The Project Engineering Program provides <br />the planning, design, construction, and inspection of all public <br />improvement projects for the city. <br />Expenditure Comments: <br />1. Personal Services is down because the new Assistant City <br />Engineer is at the 1ow end of the salary range rather than the <br />higher end, as �aas the former assistant. <br />2. Miscellaneous Services has decreased due to a$2,000 reduction in <br />Professionai Services. The 1986 budqet included �2,000 to gain access <br />to the Ramsey County geographic data base. This amount is not <br />included in the 1987 budget because the data base is not yet ready <br />for effective use. <br />23 <br />
