To identify patterns of criminal activity and develop preventive . techniques, decreasing the opportunity to successfully commit crime. ACTIVITY: ' 1. The investigations unit, comprised of one Sergeant, three Investigators, and one Juvenile Officer, investigates crime with assistance of patrol pe=sonnel and outside agencies. They collect and preserve evidence during the course of investigating, and mnintain the proper chnin of evidence. 2. The Records Unit, consistinq of three and one-half Police office clerks, processes all reports initiated by Roseville officers. The Chief's secretary aleo assists this unit. Information for every incident must be sorted, entered into the computer, and filed. All criminal reporta going to outside agencies are typed (started in 1987). 3. The Crime Prevention Coordinator works to develop contacts with citizens and business people in an effort to reduce crime opportunities and effects on the community. This person also worke to start up more Neighborhood Watch qroups. 4. The School Lisison unit, comprised of the School Liaison Officer and Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) Officer, works with students to improve relations between atudents and Police, to prevent crime, and to pravent druq abuse. The D.A.R.E. program started in 1990 and reaches all 6th graders in Roseville achools. ERPENDITURE COMMENTS: No major change for 1993. 44
