The Sanitary Sever Fund accounts for the operation of the sewer system with
9,050 customers currently beino billed. The City reviews the rate structure
annually. For 19S1, there was no overall increase in rates compared to 1980.
During 1979, rates were increasecl by So, iaith various adjustments being made
by type of user. Approximately 750 of the sewer operating expense, excluding
depreciatiml on the distribution system, are £or sewage service provided by
the Dletropolitan Waste Control Commission (MWCC). Consequently, Ue sewer
rates arz in a large part determined by the iiVVCC. The City has increased
rates for all types of users in 1952, due to an increase iii cllarges frcm tlze
Ml4CC. Sever rates are not calculated to generate revenues to offset dcpreciation
on the distribution system, since these assets were originally financed by
special assessments and future replacement of these assets is plamied, to be
financed Uy special assessments.
During 1971, tlie ownership of the sewer interceptors ivas transferred to the
MiVCC. Payment for the interceptors is being made by the Commission in the
form of ainual credits against future sewer billings. The current value
credits are being applied in annual installments of $99,636 thru year 2000.
