CTTY OF ROSEVILLE, MINNESOTA
NOTES TO THE FINANCIAL STATEMENTS (CONTINUED)
DECEMBER 31, 1982
Note 14 - Litigation/ContinQent Liabilities (Continued)
The City and a number of other suburbs are currently involved in litigation
attempting to over-turn a legislative action by the Metropolitan Council seeking
to assess charges against the plaintiffs i"or certain types of waste water. The
City is presently holding $55,537 which represents the charges which would be
imposed for 1981 and 1982 in the event that the litigation is unsuccessful. The
$55,537 potential claim is shown as a liability in the financial statements.
The City also carries personal injury insurance against suits for false arrest;
libel, slander, violation of privacy, wrongful entry, etc., which suits can arise
from enforcement of the City Code and generallaws. There were no such suits, other
than the above, pending at year end which would, in the opinion of the City
Attorney's office, incur any material liability.
Note 15 - Extraordinary Item
In 1982, the remaining balance of the Enterprise Funds (Sanitary Sewer Fund)
deferred credit of $1,308,625 resuiting from the gain on the sale of sewer mains
and laterals to the Metropolitan Waste Control Commission was recognized as an
extraordinary gain. Previously, the balance of the gain was recognized on the
installment basis as the receivable was collected. For 1981, this amounted
to $47,291.
-43-
