City Initiatives and Financial Highlights Durinq 1988 <br />The City provides a full range of municipal services as <br />authorized by State statute. This includes general government, <br />public safety, public works, parks and recreation, water and <br />sewer utility and community development. Within those areas of <br />responsibilities, the City's goals for 1988 were: <br />1 <br />2 <br />3 <br />To continue to <br />in the City <br />terminals. <br />To continue ta <br />construction <br />housing stock. <br />implement the economic redevelopment of areas <br />which contain obsolete and low value truck <br />emphasize housing development through new <br />and rehabilitation and enhancement of current <br />To balance economic growth with quality of life factors in <br />the community. <br />The City has begun to see some of the results of the above goals <br />l. A major study and rezoning of the Twin Lakes redevelopment <br />area was completed. <br />� <br />3. <br />Har Mar Mall, a major shopping center, completed an expan- <br />sion of an additional 106,000 square feet of new commercial <br />space. <br />Rezoning hearings have been held to permit additional housing <br />in areas which are currently zoned commercial. <br />Preparation was completed in 1988 for submitting parks and <br />recreational expansion plans to the voters. <br />Recycling efforts during 1988 have been highly successful. <br />The community has responded beyond expectations and the <br />City's ability to maintain a high quality of livability has <br />been greatly enhanced by these efforts. <br />The Pavement Management Program did continue to achieve out <br />standing support by the Community. The appearance and safety <br />factors of the City streets are being held to a high quality <br />and exhibit the pride of its citizens. <br />Future Projects <br />1989 will see a large number of housing units added to the commu- <br />nity. A major project on Lexington Avenue will add 254 multihous- <br />ing units. Several small developments which include high quality <br />single family housing have also been approved. In addition, <br />Rosedale Centers and developers Tanurb and Welch have announced <br />significant new commercial developments for 1989 and 1990. <br />3 <br />
