The GARE is a national network on <br />governments working to achieve racial equity and advance opportunities for all. The <br />GARE Leadership team uses curriculum, expertise of practitioners and academia to <br />learn the background and strategies necessary to approach complex race issues <br />and help governments take effective action toward racial equity. <br />The City of Roseville identified 14 employees across all departments and levels to <br />participate in the yearlong group, including two parks and recreation staff: James <br />Taylor (Parks Superintendent) and Matthew Johnson (Assistant Director). <br />In addition to Roseville, there are 14 jurisdictions participating in the Minnesota <br />GARE groupthis year, with close to 200 individual participants. Some of those <br />jurisdictions are in their second year of the program, and some, like Roseville are in <br />their first year. <br />Matthew Johnson (Assistant Director of Parks and Recreation) from the Roseville <br />GARE team will present information on the GARE program including: <br />Background on the program <br />Progress to date <br />How the work is impacting Parks and Recreation <br />Possible long term impacts of the program <br />Included in your packet are the following attachments: <br />Roseville Racial Equity Narrative <br />Roseville Demographics Summary Sheet <br />Requested Commission Action:Hear presentation and discuss relationship to <br />Parks and Recreation. <br />2 <br /> <br />
