Indigenous People’s Day October <br />In 2014 Minneapolis changed the <br />name of Columbus Day to Indigenous <br />People’s Day. Four states also officially <br />celebrate Indigenous Peoples’ Day <br />instead of Columbus <br />Day: Alaska, Minnesota, Vermont, <br />andSouth Dakota (which calls it <br />Native American Day). <br />Staff has tentatively scheduled another opportunity for the HRIEC to present proclamations for <br />approval at the January 14, 2019 City Council meeting. <br />Additionally, as part of the proclamation project, the commission discussed each commissioner <br />taking a month and coming up with a display for the cases in city hall. <br />th <br />Finally, attached is a flyer regarding the January 17event surrounding the Human Trafficking <br />Awareness Month. <br /> <br />Recommendation <br />Develop a timeline to address proclamation revisions. <br />Assign commissioners to a month for display cases. <br /> <br />Attachments <br />Library of Congress List of Commemorative Observances <br />Original Proclamations <br />Updated Proclamations <br />Flyer <br /> <br />
