I share <br />the Commissions desire to safeguard the dignity and rights of each <br />individual regardless of their religion, ethnicity, gender, citizen status, <br />economic or any other points of division by which people have been <br />marginalized in our community. The Human Rights, Inclusion and <br />Engagement Commission is a practical way tohelp support and <br />promote these values in my communitiy. <br />What is your view of the role <br />The Human Rights, Inclusion and Engagement Commission has an <br />of this Commission? <br />important role to ensure that the plans and policies being considered <br />by the city helpto promote the wellbeing, safety and interests of all her <br />residents. The focus of the Commission should give particular <br />emphasis on engaging and celebrating groups and communities within <br />Roseville that might otherwise be overlooked and marginalized by the <br />dominant culture. <br />What specific skills or <br />Beginning as an aid worker in a Hmong refugee camp in Thailand I <br />experiences do you have that <br />have gained a lot of intercultural experience living and serving with <br />would be beneficial in <br />Southeast Asian people groups including the Hmong, Lao, Filipino, <br />serving on the advisory <br />Cambodian and Thai people. My work has been with refugee <br />commission for which you <br />communities and working in Urban Poor Communities. My primary <br />are applying? <br />work in Bangkok Thailand for 25 years involved serving in low-income <br />communities and slums doing community development work. This <br />included directing a micro-economic development program, English <br />classes, Youth development programs, and practicing community <br />organizing. As a community organizer I developed skills and principles <br />for engaging and empowering urban poor communities to address <br />community concerns through a participatory process and Asset-Based <br />Community Development. Most recently, my Doctoral Thesis project <br />involved using an Appreciative Inquiry practices to promote community <br />engagement in a multiethnic context.
