Human Rights, Inclusion and Engagement Commission Minutes <br />March 20, 2019 –Draft Minutes <br />Page 5of 18 <br />179 <br />180 The Commission liked the changes. <br />181 <br />182 Chair Beltmann noted there looked like there was only one change to the Hispanic <br />183 Heritage Month proclamation which was to add in the information on how Hispanic <br />184 Americans have helped to defend the Country. <br />185 <br />186 The Commission liked the changes. <br />187 <br />188 Commissioner Macomber asked what the third sentence from the bottom meant stated <br />189“theme to be determined”. <br />190 <br />191 Commissioner Peterson stated it meant the Commission will plug in a theme once the <br />192 Commission knows what it is because it changes every year and is a National theme. <br />193 <br />194 Commissioner Peterson noted she did not change anything on Indigenous Peoples <br />195 Day proclamation. <br />196 <br />197 CommissionerPeterson moved and Commissioner Hassan seconded a motion <br />198 recommending bringing the Proclamations forward to the City Council with the <br />199 changes made.Motion passed unanimously. <br />200 <br />201 Commissioner Peterson stated given the time it has taken to review the proclamations <br />202 she would suggest reviewing them every three to five years. <br />203 <br />204 Chair Beltmann thought a review recommendation should be brought forward to the <br />205 City Council. <br />206 <br />207 Commissioner Hassan asked if the Commission should be updated the Human <br />208 Trafficking events that occurred in January. <br />209 <br />210 Commissioner Peterson reviewed the events that happened in January in regard to <br />211 Human Trafficking. <br />212 <br />213 Chair Beltmann asked ifthere were any take awayor things that should be kept in <br />214 mind for the September highlighted proclamation. <br />215 <br />216 Commissioner Peterson stated the only thing is to remember to connect with people <br />217 and organizing with people. She thought it was helpful to have afew events that <br />218 were going on regarding this topic before hand because that drummed up some buzz <br />219 about what was going to be discussed which was helpful. <br />220 <br />221 Commissioner Bolinger thought that the community being able to speak as well,and <br />222 the question and answer session was really interesting and engaged everyone.
