Human Rights, Inclusion and Engagement Commission Minutes <br />April 17, 2019 – Draft Minutes <br />Page 2of 13 <br />47 <br />48 Chair Beltmann suggested if the Commission has questions to submit to her for the interviews <br />49 that would be helpful and encouraged. <br />50 <br />51 Youth Commissioner Report <br />52 Youth Commissioner Hansel reportedthat her and four other girls will be doing the teaching for <br />th <br />53 the Human Rights Club on Wednesday, April 24 and will be talking to 300 ninth graders about <br />54 women’s rights, education in Africa and the War on Drugs in the Philippians. <br />55 <br />56 Youth Commissioner Iverson stated he talked with the high school’s Gender Sexuality Alliance <br />57 (GSA) representative about their involvement in the City parade or getting their own parade float <br />58 and are happy to send some people to the parade and walk with the Commission. <br />59 <br />60 Youth Commissioner Iverson stated the summer book read will be a photography essay for <br />61 National Geographic called Every Human Has Rights. The meetings will happen the second and <br />62 third weeks of June. He noted he would reserve the library rooms next week for this event. <br />63 <br />64 New Business <br />65 <br />66 a. Census 2020 Discussion <br />67 Assistant Manager Olson stated the City is planning ahead and the goal is to get every <br />68 person in Roseville to complete the census form. <br />69 <br />70 City Communications Specialist and Census Liaison Carolyn Curti made a <br />71 presentation to the Commission. <br />72 <br />73 Commissioner Peterson asked who will be doing the in-person visits. <br />74 <br />75 Ms. Curti stated it will be Census Bureau employees and will carry badges. <br />76 <br />77 Ms. Curti continued with her presentation on the 2020 Census and reasons why <br />78 people do not complete the Census and ways the City can encourage people in the <br />79 community to complete the Census. <br />80 <br />81 Chair Beltmann wondered if there was something that can be done on National Night <br />82 Out to help get the word out and encourage Census completion to different <br />83 communities. <br />84 <br />85 Ms. Curti thought that was an excellent suggestion. <br />86 <br />87 Commissioner Bolinger stated she has a couple of contacts at St. Odelia’s Church and <br />88 the church has the largest Spanish speaking community and thought it would be a <br />89 good place to discuss this because she thought that was a community that the City <br />90 needed to get the message out to. <br />91 <br /> <br />
