REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION <br />Date: October 21, 2019 <br />Item No.: 5.a <br />Department Approval City Manager Approval <br />Item Description:Accept Donation from Jay Green for a future sidewalk on Rice Street <br />1 B ACKGROUND <br />2 Earlier this year, staff was made aware of efforts by Jay Green, a young resident of Roseville, to <br />3 raise funds to construct a sidewalk along a section of Rice Streetnear Little Canada Rd.Jay had <br />4 observed kids walking through snow near the Rosedale Estates Apartments and adjacent to very <br />5 busy Rice Street and felt that they should have a safe sidewalk to walk on. Jay started a Go <br />6 Fund Me page and has raised $364 to put towards a future sidewalk. Jay and his mother Kristi, <br />7 met with staff and discussed Ramsey County’s long-term plan to reconstruct or resurface Rice <br />8 Street from County Road B2 to northern border of Roseville. As part of that planned <br />9 improvement, a pathway will be constructed on the Roseville side of Rice Street consistent with <br />10 the City’s and County’s Pathway Master Plans. The funds raised by Jay Green will go towards <br />11 the future sidewalk/trail that he identified as being problematic for pedestrians. <br />12 P OLICY O BJECTIVE <br />13 Minnesota Statute requires all donations to be officially accepted by the City Council. <br />14 B UDGET I MPLICATIONS <br />15 Accepting this donation will result in lower costs for the future Ramsey County Rice Street <br />16 improvement project. <br />17 R EQUESTED C OUNCIL A CTION <br />18 Motion to approve donation from Jay Green for sidewalk construction on Rice Street. <br />19 Prepared by: Patrick Trudgeon, City Manager (651) 792-7021 <br />20 Attachment: A: Jay Green’s GoFundMe page <br />21 <br /> <br />Page 1 of 1 <br /> <br />
