An EAB Open House was held in Worthington on September 4. Almost 40 people attended including county <br />staff, DNR forester, city staff, County Ag Inspector, tree care companies and homeowners. No formal comments <br />were received. <br />An EAB Open House was held in Owatonna on October 1 in regards to adding Steele County to the formal <br />quarantine. Over 60 people attended including U of MN extension, DNR Forestry, county and city staff, SWCD, <br />tree care professionals, media, and homeowners. MDA received no formal comments for the proposed formal <br />st <br />quarantine of Steele county that is anticipated to go into effect Nov. 1. Pre- <br />applications due October 4. Eligible activities: tree planting, tree inventory, ash tree removal and replacement, <br />development of management plan that includes an EAB component. <br />Jake Froyum, DNR forester, attended the Steele County EAB Open House. He works with woodland owners in <br />Steele County. <br />Brian Schwingle, DNR Forest Health Specialist, attended the MDA EAB Open House in Worthington on Sept. 4 <br />after the discovery of EAB. <br />Randy Schindle, DNR Forester, along with Gary Wyatt from UMN Extension, presented on EAB to residents and <br />community leaders of the city of Trimont on June 11. <br />Ben West, CFM forester for north-central Minnesota, includes EAB information in his general outreach efforts <br />and has presented 4 times since June 6 to roughly 1,000 attendees. <br />Ben West has been working with the city of International Falls to make decisions on managing their ash <br />population. The city council and mayor decided to move forward with their EAB mitigation plan to prioritize <br />removing and replacing ash over other tree species to expedite their timeline. <br /> <br />
