The firm used by the City surveys about 400 residents each year. Attachment A
contains the full survey information.
Much of the data in this survey is compared to the 2018 survey to see where opinions have
changed in two years. A detailed presentation of the survey data is shown in a presentation
(Attachment C).
Below are some highlights of the Executive Summary (Attachment B) from our Communications
Manager Garry Bowman focusing on PWET Commission related items:
Page 2:
• Small support for increased public transit (9%).
Page 3:
• Solid majorities endorse the City continuing to invest in long-term infrastructure projects.
By a 93%-6% margin, residents support investing in city roads. An 89%-8% majority
favors investments in water and sewer pipes, and an 72%-23% majority feels the same
about city buildings.
• An 84%-15% majority is in favor of continued investment in pedestrian pathways, and a
80%-17% majority endorses continued investments in bikeways.
• Between 74% and 81% positively rate snow plowing, trail and pathway plowing in parks,
trail and pathway plowing in neighborhoods, pathway repair and maintenance in the parks
and pathway repair and maintenance in neighborhoods.
• The lowest rated service remains street repair and maintenance at 72%; however, this is a
14% increase from the 2018 study. This service rating is now above the Metropolitan Area
norm of 60%.
Pages 5-6:
• Organized collection, recycling and organics are all covered in questions 85-100 in the
survey.
• There are some good graphic charts summing up the responses in slides 40-44 in the
PowerPoint.
• By 7 points, residents still oppose organized collection; however, there was a big increase
in those unsure, up to 42%
• Residents oppose weekly recycling collection by 11 points and curbside organics pickup
