Vandre, 2458 Holton St., livesin the neighborhood of Pocahontas Park. However, she does not <br />45 feel comfortable using the name Pocahontas Park and just refers to it as “The Park” to her young <br />46 children. She works with many tribal communities within the state of MN and has the same concerns <br />47 that have already been mentioned by other community members during this meeting. However, she <br />48 also feels that the Commission should take up a consideration of what a land acknowledgement <br />49 would mean to reflect our heritage in MN. In addition, she suggested a statement that looks at how <br />50 settler colonialism has contributed to all of the reasons that we are here and to look at what a land <br />51 acknowledgment would look like to rename this park and all other parks in Roseville. She stated that <br />52 this goes along with all of the racial and equity work that has been spurred this summer within the <br />53 community. <br />54 <br />55 3) APPROVAL OF MINUTES – AUGUST 6, 2020 MEETING <br />56 <br />57 Vice-Chair Dahlstrom moved to approve the minutes. Commissioner Baggenstoss seconds. <br />58 <br />59 Roll Call <br />60 Ayes: Baggenstoss, Brown, Dahlstrom, Hoag, and Stoner. <br />61 Nays: None. <br />62 Abstain: Arneson, O’Brien. <br />63 <br />64 4) PRESENTATION OF MINNESOTA RECREATION AND PARK ASSOCIATION (MRPA) <br />65 AWARD OF EXCELLENCE <br />66 Staff introduced Tracy Peterson, Awards Committee head with the Minnesota Recreation and Parks <br />67 Association (MRPA) and Parks and Recreation Assistant Director for the City of Edina, MN who <br />68 was presenting on behalf of the (MRPA). Peterson provided background on the MRPA and the <br />69 Awards Committee which oversees professional awards for individuals and the Award of Excellence <br />70 program which recognizes projects. The Cedarholm Community Building and Golf Course was <br />71 nominated, and won, an Award of Excellence under the “Administrative and Management <br />72 Strategies” category. Peterson congratulated Roseville Parks and Recreation on their innovation to <br />73 see Cedarholm beyond a golf facility, by creating ways to make it a year-round facility that focuses <br />74 on lifelong fitness and recreational opportunities. In addition, to creating a recreation space Peterson <br />75 noted that Cedarholm has also become a gathering place providing residents a sense of community <br />76 via new program offerings outside of golf. <br />77 <br />78 Brokke thanked Peterson for taking the time to present the award and thanked staff for their <br />79 commitment and initiative to the project. <br />80 <br />2 <br />5 <br /> <br />
