1 ROSEVILLE PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION <br />2 MEETING MINUTES FOR <br />3 October 6,20206:30p.m. <br />4 <br />5 PRESENT:Arneson, Baggenstoss,Brown,Carlson, Dahlstrom, Heikkila,Hoag, <br />6Lenhart, O’Brien,Stoner <br />7 ABSENT: Kim <br />8 STAFF: Brokke, Christensen, M. Johnson <br />9 <br />10 1) INTRODUCTIONS <br />11Chair Hoag introduced the virtual Zoom format forthe meeting due to the COVID-19 pandemic. <br />12 State Law allows for an exception to in-person public meetings during pandemics to ensure the <br />13 safety of commissioners, staff and the public. The public was still encouraged to participate in the <br />14 meeting using the Zoom platform. <br />15 <br />16 2) ROLL CALL/PUBLIC COMMENT <br />17 Roll Call Commissioners: Arneson, Baggenstoss, Brown, Carlson, Dahlstrom, Heikkila, Lenhart, <br />18 O’Brien, Hoag, and Stoner. <br />19 <br />20 Chair Hoag called for public comment by members of the audience. No one indicated a desire to <br />21 speak. <br />22 <br />23 3) APPROVAL OF MINUTES – SEPTEMBER 1, 2020 MEETING <br />24 <br />25 Commissioner Baggenstoss moved to approve the minutes. Commissioner Lenhart seconds. <br />26 <br />27 Roll Call <br />28 Ayes: Arneson, Baggenstoss, Brown, Dahlstrom, Heikkila, Hoag, Lenhart, O’Brien and Stoner. <br />29 Nays: None. <br />30 <br />31 4) POCAHONTAS PARK NAME DISCUSSION <br />32 Staff provided the racial equity narrative that was adopted by the City Council and information from <br />33 the Government Alliance on Race and Equity (GARE) to the Commission. GARE is a national <br />34 alliance of Government entities making a commitment to achieving racial equity. Agencies who join <br />35 GARE commit to putting focus on normalizing racial equality by using their influence for change. <br />36 The city became a member of GARE in 2018. <br />37 <br />38 The Racial Equity Tool Kit is used by GARE to articulate the process and its impacts prior to <br />39 implementing a change. Staff suggested that this tool be used to understand and analyze the <br />40PocahontasPark name projectand noted that they will be sending out a questionnaire related to the <br />1 <br /> <br />
