Approval of Minutes of the November 5, 2020 Meeting Enclosed is a copy of the minutes of November 5, 2020. Please be prepared to approve or amend. Requested Commission Action: Approve/amend meeting minutes of November 5, 2020. 4. Pocahontas Park Name Discussion Over the past several months, you have been discussing this topic and have been working through a process to study the name of Pocahontas Park related to the affects it may or may not have on people. The Government Alliance on Race and Equity (GARE) Racial Equity Toolkit has been a guide and you are currently in the information gathering stage. Last month you suggested that outside experts, representing Indigenous organizations should be invited to a meeting, and you had identified some options. We have reached out to many of the groups that you suggested. We have confirmed Shannon Geshick, the Executive Director of the Minnesota Indian Affairs Council, and a Roseville resident, will be a guest panelist at the meeting. Several others have expressed interest but their ability to attend is uncertain at this time. Panelist(s) attending will provide a brief background of themselves, their organization and will plan to have an open conversation with you about this topic and an opportunity for the Commission to learn more. Please be prepared with your questions in order to continue gathering information. If you feel it is more efficient and it works for you, please consider sending in your questions to Assistant Director, Matt Johnson prior to the meeting and he will compile, coordinate and communicate them at the meeting. Included in your packet is an updated Community Engagement and Analysis Plan, based on your conversation in November. This is an evolving document and will continue to be updated as we move through the process. As suggested, the Human Rights, Inclusion and Engagement Commission (HRIEC) members will be forwarded this packet and will be invited to attend as members of the public.
