The work you are doing now is a critical step in the City’s stated goal to be inclusive. The easy path is to do what we have always done. We can use our tried and true methods to reach out to the community, which will get the same results we have always had and will continue to represent only our predominately white residents. We can simply remove the offensive name and give it a generic new name that takes the path of least resistance and does not require or encourage future community engagement into the full history of our City. The richness of an individual's life comes from all of the people we know and all of the experiences that we have, and the same can be said for a community. I urge you to be courageous and to use this as an opportunity to acknowledge the full spectrum of people that make up our community and to acknowledge our full history, warts and all. Thank you.
