Several independent resources have been provided to the Commission for review In keeping with the draft plan, the following steps are suggested: Staff will attempt to connect with Dakota communities in Minnesota to share progress and request feedback Staff will attempt to connect with the Roseville Area Schools American Indian Parent Advisory Committee for feedback A websitedisplaying resources about the conversation and requesting feedback has been posted Commissioners are encouraged as individuals to continue to have conversations in the community,learn more and share what they learn with the Commission Commissioners and staff will be on hand to receive feedback at the Discover Your Parks (DYP) event on August 4, 2021 at Pocahontas Parkand more broadly at all Discover Your Parks events this summer It is suggestedthat a “Listening Session” be held as part of the September 7, Parks and Recreation Commission meeting Other Notes/Resources A story regarding the Pocahontas Park name conversation was featured on Fox 9 News on March 22 A resident recommended a conversation from the Minnesota Historical Society: Reclaiming Bde Maka Ska Requested Commission Action: Discuss and finalize tangible steps and provide feedback. 7. Staff Report a. New or Relevant Communication and Update Items The annual New Commissioner Orientation and Ethics training is scheduled as follows: Wednesday, April 14 6:00 – 6:30 p.m. – New Commissioner Orientation Chair/Vice Chair training will occur at this same time in a breakout room 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. – Ethics Training New Commissioner Orientation is for all the commissioners who were recently appointed to new terms and those appointed last year whom an orientation was not provided due to COVID. New commission Chairs or Vice Chairs are also invited to a training specific to their role during this time as well. All commissioners should plan to attend the annual Ethics training conducted by our City Attorney. This will be conducted via Zoom and email invites will be sent out to all commissioners.
