1 ROSEVILLE PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION
2 MEETING MINUTES FOR
3 MARCH 2, 2021 6:30 p.m.
4
5 PRESENT:Arneson, Baggenstoss,Brown,Carlson, Dahlstrom,Heikkila, Hoag,Kim,
6Lenhart, O’Brien,Stoner
7 ABSENT:
8 STAFF: Anderson, Brokke, Christensen, Johnson
9
10 1) INTRODUCTIONS
11 Chair Hoag introduced the virtual Zoom format for the meeting due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
12 State Law allows for an exception to in-person public meetings during pandemics to ensure the
13safety of commissioners, staff and the public. The public was still encouraged to participate in the
14meeting using the Zoom platform.
15
162) ROLL CALL/PUBLIC COMMENT
17 Roll Call Commissioners: Arneson,Baggenstoss, Brown, Carlson, Dahlstrom, Kim, O’Brien,
18Hoag, and Stoner.
19
20Chair Hoag called for public comment by members of the audience.
21
22 J. Doerfler,Speaking on behalf of Roseville Fastpitch Association; Commented that the field
23 assignments and availability for Roseville Fastpitch over the last four years have been decreasing.
24 This decrease has caused the Association to go to surrounding communities to ask for fields in order
25 to support their 18 teams. Renting fields from surrounding communities was not a cost that the
26 Association had anticipated. Ms. Doerfler acknowledged the many opportunities that the Association
27 and city have to work together in order to solve the problem, including potentially looking at grant
28 opportunities.
29
30Commissioner Arneson offered full disclosure to the Commission that his daughter plays for
31Roseville Fastpitch. He added that as a “non-Commission member” but rather as a tax-payer it is
32hard to see so many adult teamsusing the fieldsandknowing that not many of the players are
33 Roseville residents. He suggested that this be looked into as residents are paying taxes to support
34 Parks and Recreation but are not having a strong voice that allows residents the ability to play on the
35 fields that their taxes paid to support. He also added that he is not aware of Roseville Youth Baseball
36 having the same issues. In conclusion, he noted that he is passionate about supporting women and
37youth sports and he supports looking into this.
38
39Staff responded thatthere may have beena communication misunderstanding between the
40Association and staff. Staff also noted that they encourage all Associations to search for andutilize
1
