REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION <br /> Date 9/24/18 <br /> Item No.: <br />Department Approval City Manager Approval <br /> <br />Item Description: Consider Name Recommendation for Park Property at2134 Cleveland Avenue <br /> <br />___________________________________________________________________________________ <br /> <br />1 B ACKGROUND <br />2 The Roseville Parks and Recreation System Master Plan identified several potential strategies to <br />3 improve parks and recreation opportunities in Southwest Roseville. <br />4 <br />5 In 2016, the City purchased a .79 acre parcel located at 2134 Cleveland Avenue (corner of County Road <br />6 B and Cleveland Avenue) for park and recreation purposes. <br />7 In May of 2017, the City Council hired LHB for planning and design services to assist in the <br />8 development of a Park Master Plan for 2134 Cleveland Avenue. <br />9 In February of 2018, after a planned community engagement process, the City Council approved the <br />10 preferred Park Master Plan and authorized development of the park. Since that time, details of the <br />11 development have continued as well as name considerations. <br />12 <br />13 The Parks and Recreation Commission (Commission)has studied the naming of this property as per the <br />14 attached city policy. The Commission used the following process: <br />15 1. Review of city policy for assigning names to city facilities <br />16 2. Solicitation of suggestions from the community (see-enclosedlist) <br />17 3. Discussion of the history of the property <br />18 4. Discussion of options for names <br />19 <br />20 Following several months of discussion, the Commission has recommended the name for the new park area <br />21 at 2134 Cleveland Avenue to be Midland Gardens. The Commission stated reasons for recommending this <br />22 name based upon the following rationale: <br />23 “Midland” provides a location marker for the park <br />th <br />24 Midland is a potential nod to the 45Parallel <br />25 The “Garden” name will differentiate it for the other Midland locations/businesses <br />26 The park will most likely always have a garden on-site <br />27 <br />28 Commission Chair Nancy O’Brien and others will be at your meeting to review their recommendation. <br />Page 1 of 2 <br /> <br />
