Building- integrated systems include but are not 815 <br />limited to photovoltaic or hot water solar systems that are contained within roofing materials, windows, 816 <br />skylights, and awnings. 817 <br />SOLAR SYSTEM, GRID-INTERTIE: A photovoltaic solar system that is connected to an electric circuit 818 <br />served by an electric utility company. 819 <br />SOLAR SYSTEM, OFF-GRID: A photovoltaic solar system in which the circuits energized by the solar 820 <br />system are not electrically connected in any way to electric circuits that are served by an electric utility 821 <br />company. 822 <br />SOLAR SYSTEM, PASSIVE: A solar energy system that captures solar light or heat without 823 <br />transforming it to another form of energy or transferring the energy via a heat exchanger. 824 <br />START OF CONSTRUCTION: For the purpose of floodplain regulation only, the date the building 825 <br />permit was issued, provided the actual start of construction, repair, reconstruction, rehabilitation, addition, 826 <br />placement, or other improvement was within 180 days of the permit date. The actual start means either the 827 <br />first placement of permanent construction on a site, such as the pouring of slab or footings, the installation 828 <br />of piles, the construction of columns, or any work beyond initial excavation, or the placement of a 829 <br />manufactured home on a foundation. Permanent construction does not include land preparation, such as 830 <br />clearing, grading and filling, nor does it include the installation of streets and/or walkways, nor does it 831 <br />include excavation for a basement, footings, piers or foundations or the erection of temporary forms, nor 832 <br />does it include the installation on the property of accessory buildings, such as garages or sheds not 833 <br />occupied as dwelling units or not part of the main structure. For an alteration, the actual start of 834 <br />construction means the first alteration of any wall, ceiling, floor or other structural part of a building, 835 <br />whether or not that alteration affects the external dimensions of the building. 836 <br />STATE: The word “State” shall mean the State of Minnesota. 837 <br />STORAGE, OUTDOOR: See OUTDOOR STORAGE. 838 <br />STORY: A story is that portion of a building, other than a basement or mezzanine, included between the 839 <br />surface of any floor and the surface of the floor next above it, or if there be no floor above it, then the 840 <br />space between the floor and the ceiling next above it. For the purposes of this ordinance, there shall be 841 <br />only one basement which shall be counted as a story when the front exterior wall of the basement level is 842 <br />exposed more than 50%. 843 <br />STREET: A public right-of-way which affords a primary means of access to abutting property. 844 <br />STRUCTURE: A structure is anything constructed or erected, including paved surfaces, the use of which 845 <br />requires more or less permanent location on the ground, or attached to something having permanent 846 <br />location on the ground, and in the case of floodplain areas, in the stream bed or lake bed. 847 <br />SWIMMING POOL: Any structure intended for swimming or recreational bathing that contains water 848 <br />over 24 inches. 849 <br />T. 850 <br />TAPROOM: An area for the on-sale consumption of cider, mead, beer or other beverages made from malt 851 <br />by fermentation produced for consumption on the premises of a brewery.
