REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION Date:October 12, 2020 Item No.: 9.d Department Approval City Manager Approval Item Description: Approve a Resolution Approving Final Contract Acceptance of the 2020 Pathway Improvement Project 1 B ACKGROUND 2 On March 23, 2020, the City Council awarded the 2020 Pathway Improvement Project to 3 Bituminous Roadways, Inc. The work for this contract was finished in August of 2020, and the 4 contractor has requested final payment. This project consisted of various parking lot mill and 5 overlay projects as well as the rehabilitation and new construction of various pathways across the 6 City. 7 P OLICY O BJECTIVE 8 City policy requires that the following items be completed to finalize a construction contract: 9 Certification from the City Engineer verifying that all of the work has been completed in 10 accordance with plans and specifications. 11 A resolution by the City Council accepting the contract and beginning the one-year warranty. 12 F INANCIAL I MPACTS 13 The final contract amount is $389,806.88, which is lower than the original contract amount of 14 $460,622.00. Two proposed pathway segments, Tamarack Park trail and Langton Lake Park trail 15 were removed from the project, which is why the final contract amount is lower than the original 16 contract amount. Parks renewal funds paid for $85,289.80 of the costs and parking lot pathway 17 funds paid for $304,517.08 of the costs. 18 Other project costs include testing, which was $5,641.95 from the parking lot pathway fund. Total 19 project costs were $395,448.83. 20 S TAFF R ECOMMENDATION 21 Since all necessary items have been completed in accordance with project plans and specifications, 22 staff recommends the City Council approve a resolution approving final contract acceptance of the 23 2020 Pathway Improvement Project and authorize final payment of $5,120.00.
