REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION <br />Date: October 12, 2020 <br />Item No.:5.a <br />Department ApprovalCity Manager Approval <br />Item Description:Receive Municipality of the Year Award from the Real Estate Journal MN <br />1 B ACKGROUND <br />2 The Real Estate Journal annually recognizes top real estate achievements and developments from the <br />3 prior yearthrough an awards events. There are nearly 30 awards recognized at this annual event, <br />4 organized by the following categories: projects, companies, people, transactions, and <br />5 city/municipality (see Attachment A). Nominations typically open for submission in late-spring, <br />6 finalists are announced towards the end of summer, and the awards event is held in late <br />7 September/early October. Staff submitted the following nominations: <br />8 Municipality of the Year: City of Roseville based upon an influx of major redevelopment <br />9 efforts as a result ofthe City’s recently revised and adopted Public Finance and Business <br />10 Subsidy Policy. Both the McGough and CPC headquarters projects were highlighted in the <br />11 nomination materials. <br />12 Redevelopment/Reuse/Historic –Office category: McGough Headquarters based upon <br />13 salvage and restoration of a 60-year old trucking terminal. <br />rd <br />14 Staff was notified by RE Journal MN on September 3that the City of Roseville was selected as a <br />15 finalist for Municipality of the Year, along with the City of Lakeville. The awards event washeld on <br />th <br />16 September 30. The City Manager and two Community Development staff attended virtually and the <br />17 Mayor attended in-person, where the City was awarded the Municipality of the Year award.
