REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION <br />Date:October 19, 2020 <br />Item No.:7.b <br />Department Approval City Manager Approval <br />Item Description: Discuss considering amendments to Title 3, Section 306 Cigarette and <br />Tobacco Products of the City Code including prohibiting the sale of flavored <br />tobacco products in the City of Roseville <br />1 B ACKGROUND <br />2 Recently Councilmember Groff requested staff bring back an item for discussion regarding <br />3 prohibiting the sale of flavored tobacco products within the City of Roseville. <br />4 According to the Association for Non Smokers-MN targeting youth with flavored products is a critical <br />5 step in the tobacco industry’s strategy to encourage addiction. <br />6 Duluth, Falcon Heights, Mendota Heights, Lauderdale, Lilydale, Hennepin County, Golden Valley, <br />7 Shoreview and Edina have restricted or banned the sale of all flavored tobacco products, including <br />8 menthol. Staff has included the Shoreview ordinance for reference as Attachment B. A copy of <br />9 Roseville’s current tobacco ordinance is included as Attachment C. <br />10 P OLICY O BJECTIVE <br />11 One of Roseville’s Community Aspirations is to be a “Physically and mentally active and healthy” <br />12 community.
