REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION <br />Date:November 9, 2020 <br />Item No.:7.f <br />Department Approval City Manager Approval <br />Item Description: Receive Presentation on Fire Department Shift Staffing <br />1 B ACKGROUND <br />2 The Fire Department and City of Roseville recently accepted a Federal Emergency Management <br />3 Agency (FEMA) Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) grant for just over <br />4$1.8 million dollars to be utilized to hire and retain six additional firefightersfor the next three years. <br />5 The Fire Department has been working through a Phase II staffing program focused on enhancing <br />6 and increasing on-duty staffing to better meet the increasing call volume and needs of the <br />7 community. This SAFER grant significantly assists with completing this phase now and into the <br />8 future. <br />9 With the additional six firefighters the Fire Department will begin to deploy shifts of up to eight <br />10 firefighters, staffing three pieces of apparatus 24/7/365; a significant step forward to meet the needs <br />11 of the community. <br />12 This presentation will demonstrate and discuss the evolution of theFire Department’s staffing <br />13 program, what the Council and community should expect with the Department’s staffing transition, <br />14 and review how the Fire Department experimented with staffing and service levels in 2020 with an <br />15 8-firefighter shift. <br />16 P OLICY O BJECTIVE <br />17 No policy objectives at this time; Fire Department seeks continued support for staffing transition. <br />18 B UDGET I MPLICATIONS <br />19 No new budget implications related to the presentation. <br />20 S TAFF R ECOMMENDATION <br />21 Staff recommends Council support the continued Fire Department staffing increasesand <br />22 enhancements. <br />23 R EQUESTED C OUNCIL A CTION <br />24 No official Council action needed; presentation only. <br />Prepared by: David Brosnahan, Assistant Fire Chief (651) 792-7333 <br />Attachments: A: Power-Point Presentation <br /> <br /> <br />Page 1 of 1 <br /> <br />
