REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION <br />Date:January 24, 2022 <br />Item No.: 7.f <br />Department Approval City Manager Approval <br />Item Description: Consider Commission Reappointments and Process for 2022 <br />1 B ACKGROUND <br />2 The Council annually appoints citizens to commissions. Council has the option to interview returning <br />3 commissioners for reappointment, or make reappointments without interviewing. This agenda item <br />4 provides details regarding those commissioners who are interested in reappointment for an additional <br />5 term beginning April 1, 2022. Council also has the option to consider reappointing commissioners <br />6 tonight, or at a future City Council meeting. <br />7 <br />8 In addition, at the January 10, 2022 meeting, Council provided feedback regarding recommendations <br />9 related to commissioner recruitment, interviews and appointments in conjunction with the work on <br />10 the city’s Strategic Racial Equity Action Plan (SREAP). At that meeting, council directed staff to <br />11 schedule interviews on a separate evening from a council meeting. Proposed dates for those <br />12 interviews are below. These interviews will be held off-camera, on a separate evening and applicants <br />13 will be provided interview dates as part of the application process. <br />14 <br />15 The updated proposed process is: <br />16 <br />January 24 <br /> Council considers commissioners who are seeking reappointment <br />for a term beginning April 1, 2022. Determine if council wants to <br />re-interview any current commissioners. <br /> <br /> Council declares vacancies on various commissions. <br /> <br />Council confirms interview dates and reappointment process <br />January 25 <br /> Staff updates website and other materials to reflect the <br />application period, interview dates and process and continues <br />active recruitment efforts. <br />March 7 <br /> Application period closes <br />This date was chosen to allow for the March/April newsletter to <br />be sent to residents’ homes prior to application be closed. <br />March 9-10 <br /> Interviews are scheduledfor new applicants and/or any <br />commissioners council seeks to re-interview. Depending upon the <br />number of applicants, a second night may or may not be <br />necessary. <br />March 21 <br /> Council appoints applicants to various commission vacanciesfor <br />terms beginning April 1, 2022. <br />March 30 <br /> New Commissioner Orientation is scheduled. <br />April <br /> Ethics training for all commissioners. <br />Page 1 of 4 <br /> <br />
