REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION <br />Date: January 31, 2022 <br /> Item No.:7.c <br />Department Approval City Manager Approval <br /> <br />Item Description: Parks and Recreation Commission Meeting with the City Council <br />1 B ACKGROUND <br />2 Periodically, the Parks and Recreation Commission (PRC) meets with the City Council to review <br />3 and discuss accomplishments, activities and work items. <br />4 <br />5 The Commission participated and provided input/advice on the following items since the last <br />6 joint meeting on January 25, 2021: <br />7 Park project review. <br />8 Recreation program review. <br />9 Cedarholm Community Building and Golf Course operational review. <br />10 Review and recommendation of several park dedication sites. <br />11 Review of deer management program. <br />12 Park Dedication Ordinance was reviewed and updated – an item that the City <br />13 Council asked the Commission to provide a recommendation. <br />14 Guidant John Rose MNOVAL improvement grant agreement final, engineer <br />15 hired, plans and specs underway. <br />16 City Council authorized distribution of Request for Proposals (RFP) Emerald Ash <br />17 Borer (EAB) Plan. <br />18 Inclusive Play Area opened at Central Park Victoria West. <br />19 Pickleball Courts discussion, advice and engagement process complete and plans <br />20 for implementation in 2022. <br />21 Evaluation of Pocahontas Park Name <br />22 <br />23 In addition to the above items, the Commission would like to update the Council on the <br />24 Pocahontas Park name conversation and receive feedback. <br />25 <br />26 The engagement process regarding the current nameof Pocahontas Park, which was based upon <br />27 the Government Alliance on Race and Equity tool kit, is nowcomplete (Attachment A). Based <br />28 upon that process, the PRC recommends the following: <br />29 <br />30 Based upon overall community feedback and conversations with Native American <br />31 individuals and groups, it is recommended that the current name be changed and a <br />32 future process be undertaken to determine a new name. <br />33 <br />Page 1 of 2 <br /> <br />
