Coordinators Leads Recreation Staff & Tennis Instructors Interviews scheduled for March 5) DEBRIEF FROM JOINT MEETING Chair Hoag relayed that he heard a “resounding yes” from the City Council regarding the name change of Pocahontas Park and using the existing Park Name Policy as a guide. He also heard that the City Council may be open to a stipend, if necessary. He believes that the City Council also wanted the Commission to engage with the indigenous community, groups that the Commission has already spoken with and the community throughout the name change process. The Commission discussed next steps in the name change process and how to best reach out to various indigenous and community groups. Staff noted that they felt that staff reaching out to local groups would be an appropriate next step in the process. Staff also relayed their appreciation to the Commission for their work on the project and to the presenters who represented the Commission at the joint meeting with the City Council. 6) STAFF REPORT a) NEW OR RELEVANT COMMUNICATIONS AND UPDATE ITEMS Operations Update o The City Council has voted to require face coverings at all city facilities until 11:59pm on March 1, 2022. This includes auxiliary city facilities including the Skating Center, Cedarholm Community Building, Park Buildings, and Harriet Alexander Nature Center. There are some exemptions to the requirement (eating, playing sports, etc.). o The Accelerated Emerald Ash Borer program Request for Proposal results are anticipated to be brought to the City Council in March. A $50,000 planting grant from the MN Department of Natural Resources was recently approved by the City Council and will be included in this project. o The Guidant John Rose MN OVAL grant project bids were received January 27 for the mechanical and drainage packages. It is anticipated that a recommendation will be presented to the City Council in February for those package bids. The specialized padding that is needed will be completedthrough a separate bid using the Best Value Procurement Process. 4
