However, if we assume that the number of deer remains similar to 2021, 49 could be appropriate again for this season. This is the preliminary recommendation from our USDA and DNR experts. For comparison sake, over the past three years, the City has requested 5 (2019/20), 85 (2020/21) and 49 (2021/22) tags. Cost is also a consideration. The USDA charges for actual time and materials only. It is worth noting that requesting the tags does not necessarily mean that they will be used similar to this past season where 49 tags were requested and 43 deer were taken.
