BENCHMARKESTIMATED POPULATION
Last Survey – January 23, 2021 41
8 Deer removed in spring 2021 33
Assume ½ are female (16.5)
Assume 2 fawns each female (add 33 new deer)
(population in fall 2021) 66
Habitat supported in Roseville (-17)
Reduction number (Based on formula) 49
Giventhatthe last survey preceded part of the reduction in the 2020/21 season and all of
the 2021/22 season, it is somewhat less precise than years past. However, if we assume
that the number of deer remains similar to 2021, 49 could be appropriate again for this
season. This is the preliminary recommendation from our USDA and DNR experts.
For comparison sake, over the past three years, the City has requested 5 (2019/20), 85
(2020/21) and 49 (2021/22) tags.
Cost is also a consideration. The USDA charges for actual time and materials only. The
following are the costs incurred for each of the three completed seasons and the upcoming
budget for this fifth season:
Season Number of Deer Taken Cost
2016/1720 $ 3,771.70
2018/19 20 $ 7,363.65
2019/20 46 $15,200.00
2020/21 31 $15,104.00
2021/22 43 $15,000 (estimate)
2022/23 TBD $17,000 Budget
Roseville has a thoughtful, sensitive and incremental program that appears to be making
progress. It is worth noting that requesting the tags does not necessarily mean that they will
be used similar to this past season where 49 tags were requested and 43 deer were taken.
Requested Commission Action: Discuss and provide advice/recommendation on
program, locations and a reduction number.
6.Staff Report
a.Departmental Updates
b.Discover Your Park Signup Sheet
The Discover Your Park signup sheet is now available on-line.
