REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION <br />Date:July 25, 2022 <br />Item No.:10.f <br />Department Approval City Manager Approval <br />Item Description: Authorize Agreement to Host ForestryCorps Member in Roseville <br /> <br />1 B ACKGROUND <br />2 For the second consecutive year, the City of Roseville has been awarded a Community Forestry <br />3 Corps Member to serve in Roseville as part of the AmeriCorps Program. Community Forestry Corps <br />4 Members serve at a nonprofit or public agency with a mission to preserve and protect <br />5 Minnesota’s environment and strengthen communities, with a focus on preserving and increasing <br />6 tree canopy. <br />7 <br />8 Specifically, in Roseville, the Forestry Corps member will assist with administering the Accelerated <br />9 Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) Management Program and general forestry needs. Service could include <br />10 tree inventorying, tree planting events, gravel bed nursery implementation, citizen volunteer <br />11 recruitment, training and utilization, and outreach and education events. A position description is <br />12 attached (Attachment A). <br />13 <br />14 Our current Forestry Corps member, Izzy Keefe, is scheduled to compete her term in Roseville this <br />15 week. The new member will begin in August and willserve in Roseville for 11 months, through July <br />16 of 2023. <br />17 This position will receive a bi-weekly stipend of $1,100 from AmeriCorps, with no cost to the City. <br />18 The Forestry Corp Member will be housedin the Parks and Recreation Department and supervised <br />19 by the Parks Superintendent. <br />20 P OLICY O BJECTIVE <br />21 Participating in the Forestry Corps program is consistent with the City’s policy objectives of <br />22 conservation, preservation and increasing the City’s tree canopy, efficiently utilizing city resources <br />23 and providing education for ongoing environmental stewardship. <br />24 B UDGET I MPLICATIONS <br />25 From August 2022 through July 2023, Forestry Corp members receive a stipend of $1,100 every two <br />26 weeks and individual health insurance (monthly premium 100% paid).
