REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION <br />Date:November 7, 2022 <br />Item No.: 10.c <br />Department ApprovalCity Manager Approval <br />Item Description:Approve Final Payment for County Road BWatermain Improvements <br />1 B ACKGROUND <br />2 On April 11, 2022, the City Council awarded the County Road BWatermain Improvements to <br />3 Northdale Construction Co., Inc. Work completed under the contract totaled $438,880.71. The <br />4 work was successfully completed during the 2022season and the project is ready to be closed out. <br />5 The project consisted of replacing the watermain on County Road B between Merril Streetand <br />6 Lexington Avenue.Work included replacing valves, hydrants, reconnecting water services and <br />7 associated restoration work. This work was done in conjunction with the Xcel Gas Main project. <br />8 City policy requires that the following items be completed to finalize a construction contract: <br />9 Certification fromthe City Engineer verifying that all of the work has been completed in <br />10 accordance with plans and specifications. (See Attachment B) <br />11 A resolution by the City Council accepting the contract and beginning the one-year warranty. <br />12(See Attachment A) <br />13 F INANCIAL I MPACTS <br />14 The final contract amount, $438,880.71, is $151,124.03(25.6%) lessthan the awarded amount of <br />15$590,004.74. The cost decrease was due to reduced excavation limits and reduced soil corrections. <br />16 Additionally, the City had a cooperative agreement with Xcel Energy, which was approved on April <br />17 11, 2022, which share costs between each agency’s contracts.The City’s cost related to the project <br />18 between the Xcel Agreement and the Northdale contract was $589,221.64 and is broken down in the <br />19 table below. <br />CityXcel Energy <br />County Rd B Watermain Contract <br />$381,619.42$57,492.25 <br />Xcel EnergyCost Share$207,602.22 <br />Total Cost <br />$589,221.64 <br />20 The total project cost is $589,221.64 which was $103,663.52 less than anticipated when the project <br />21 was approved. All costs for the project will be paid using the water utilityfund. <br />22 S TAFF R ECOMMENDATION <br />23 The work completed was in accordance with project plans and specifications. Staff recommends the <br />24 City Council approve a resolution accepting the work completed as the County Road BWatermain <br />25 Improvementsand authorize final payment of $6,472.51 to Northdale Construction Co., Inc. <br />Page 1of 2 <br /> <br />
