REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION <br />Date:December 5, 2022 <br /> Item No.: 7.d <br />Department Approval City Manager Approval <br />Item Description: Consider Approval of Newly Created Positions in the 2023 City Budget <br />1 B ACKGROUND <br />2 <br />3 The 2023 City Manager recommended budget created or reclassified several positons as follows: <br />4 Sustainability Specialist (new position) <br />5 Accounting Tech II (reclassified position) <br />6 Code Compliance Coordinator (reclassified position) <br />7 Digital Social Media Specialist (reclassified position) <br />8 Administrative Coordinator (reclassified position) <br />9 Parks Maintenance (reclassified position) <br />10 Detective Sergeant (reclassified position) <br />11 Senior Project Coordinator (reclassified position) <br />12 Volunteer Manager (reclassified position) <br />13 <br />14 The reclassified positions are already included the City’s play plan and compensation system and <br />15 do not need further approval beyond budget authorization. Job classification review occurs only <br />16 when substantial changes in the assigned duties have occurred. Reclassifications are not used to <br />17 recognize increases in volume of work or address any minor or temporary changes in assigned <br />18 responsibilities. <br />19 <br />20 The City Council serves as the authority to approve new positions for the City’s pay plan and <br />21 compensation system. Below is the job summary and 2023 salary range for the newly created <br />22 position that is proposed as part of the 2023 City Manager recommended budget. <br />23 It should be noted that thejob description includes language, skills, duties and/or qualifications that <br />24 help advance the priorities of equity within the organization. <br />25 <br />26 Sustainability Specialist (new position) <br />27 <br />28 JOB SUMMARY: <br />29 Under the direction of the Environmental Manager, the Sustainability Specialist is responsible for <br />30 integrating City sustainability and resiliency efforts including but not limited to comprehensive <br />31 planning, program implementation and public education. Thisposition will assist in the creation and <br />32 implementation of engagement initiatives for the advancement of sustainability and the applicable <br />33 action plans the City has or will adopt. The Sustainability Specialist will develop and administer <br />34 programs, initiatives, policies, and procedures with a strong focus on making connections, sharing <br />35 information and educational materials to reach program goals.
