Why Plan with a Purpose? <br />• Building communities that are resilient and livable requires planning with intention. <br />• Increasing meaningful community engagement leads to better addressing the needs <br />of community members. <br />• Creating a shared meaning about susta!nab!I!ty increases the community's ability to <br />make progress toward a healthy and sustainable future for all community members. <br />• A clean and safe environment is essential for a community to thrive and prosper. <br />• Shared prosperity benefits everyone! <br />Guiding Questions for Planning with a Purpose <br />Who's at the table? Who's missing? Who are our community stakeholders? How are we <br />making sure that stakeholders are represented and do not face barriers to <br />participation? What sources of diversity exist In our community? How are we ensuring <br />that our planning process, participants, and outcomes reflect that diversity? <br />@Do participants have the opportunity to shape programs and policies from the <br />beginning, or is the engagement seen as an opportunity to sell a decision to the <br />community? <br />@What are our guiding principles and mission? What areas do we want to focus on and <br />incorporate into our planning efforts (energy, buildings, transportation, procurement, <br />investments, people, equity, health, air, water, climate, local foods, waste)? <br />What local data are available about our community assets and needs? How can we use <br />our planning process to build on existing community assets to address community <br />needs? <br />Os there an existing planning framework that fits our community goals?
