Roseville Public Works, Environment and Transportation Commission Agenda Item Date: January 24, 2023 Item No: 6 Item Description: 2023 Sustainability Update Background: Roseville residents highly value the sustainability, natural resources, and recreational opportunities in the community, which is why the City has made it a priority to preserve, promote, and maintain these resources. Through the City's Comprehensive Plan, participation in programs such as GreenStep Cities, and projects such as the ongoing wildlife habitat restoration in city parks, Roseville continues to strive toward building a sustainable future for all residents, businesses, and visitors. For more information, see the Sustainability webpage CityOfRoseville.com/Sustainabilitv. As part of our sustainability work, the City participated in Xcel Energy's Partners in Energy Program. Staff worked with Xcel Energy and the Center for Energy and Environment (CEE) to move the program forward. Staff is very excited with how the program operated, and the advancements that were made to establish goals and strategies in order to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions. The goal of the Partners in Energy Program is to create a community -based Energy Action Plan that the City can use to implement actions to lower greenhouse gas emissions. The Energy Action Plan was developed by an Energy Action Team that met five times between December 2020 and April 2021 to discuss and create the focus areas of the plan. Staff implemented the plan from June 2021 until December 31, 2022. Roseville officially graduated from the program as of January 1, 2023, but will continue to implement the Energy Action Plan as long as there are improvements that can be made. In 2022, the City advanced several other topics to make Roseville more sustainable, and 2023 will see even more with the addition of the Sustainability Specialist position.
