<br />Commissioner Baggenstoss joined the meeting. <br /> <br />Commissioner Arneson relayed that he liked Keya (Turtle) Park as it aligns with the naming policy <br />and is in the Dakota language. <br /> <br />Commissioner Matts-Benson appreciated Ms. Lorenz listing names that may not be appropriate and <br />she does not feel those names should be considered by the Commission. She added that she would <br />lean more towards Dakota Makoce (Dakota Land) Park. <br /> <br />Vice-Chair Hoag noted that Dakota Makoce (Dakota Land) Park may be easier to explain using <br />interpretive signs at the park. However, he noted that Keya (Turtle) was suggested by a resident who <br />lives near the park and that a turtle could potentially be incorporated into the new playground that <br />will be constructed at the park in 2023. <br /> <br />Commissioner Brown shared that he appreciated Ms. Lorenz comments and suggested potentially <br />combining Keya (Turtle) at Dakota Makoce (Dakota Land) for a name. <br /> <br />Commissioner Lenhart liked that Keya (Turtle) Park is a short easy name that could teach people <br />about the Dakota language. In addition, she suggested using Dakota Makoce (Dakota Land) in an <br />interpretive park sign, but not in the name. <br /> <br />Commissioner Ybarra relayed that she liked Keya (Turtle) Park for the name. <br /> <br />Commissioner Baggenstoss stated that potentially picking a short name, which aligns easily with the <br />English language, should not be a reason to choose a particular name. He added that Dakota Makoce <br />(Dakota Land) could be a good name to relay that there is an understanding that this is Dakota Land. <br />For Keya (Turtle) Park he relayed concern that he believes it does not have a significant meaning. <br /> <br />Chair Dahlstrom acknowledged that Dakota Makoce (Dakota Land) may potentially have more <br />meaning as a park name. <br /> <br />Commissioner Baggenstoss suggested expanding on the Dakota language within the park by <br />utilizing interpretive signs with Keya (Turtle), Wastemna (Bergamot), etc. to identify park features. <br /> <br />Commissioner Arneson agreed with Commissioner Baggenstoss that Dakota Makoce (Dakota Land) <br />should be included in the interpretive signs at the park.
