<br />REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION <br /> Date: March 6, 2023 <br /> Item No.: 10.g <br />Department Approval City Manager Approval <br /> <br />Item Description: Consider Awarding Contract for DEI Training <br />1 B ACKGROUND <br />2 In support of the City’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), and in support of the current <br />3 Strategic Racial Equity Action Plan (SREAP), a training plan has been developed and will be implemented <br />4 throughout 2023 to ensure all employees have a shared introduction and understanding of DEI principles <br />5 and terminology. After discussion with city leaders and following DEI related training for Department <br />6 Heads in 2022, specific needs were identified for learning at various levels throughout the organization. <br />7 Equity and inclusion is a lens and perspective that should be used in all roles throughout the organization <br />8 as it impacts how the city serves the diverse needs of the community. The training plan for 2023 based on <br />9 the identified learning needs is as follows: <br />10 <br />11 All Staff - to attend one session in April or May 2023 <br />12 Topics - Foundational Training on Communication & Shared Terminology, Government’s Role, <br />13 Understanding Bias, and Microaggressions <br />14 <br />15 Managers/Supervisors/Department Heads– to attend two sessions in August and September 2023 <br />16 Topics – Leading a Diverse Team & Creating a Culture of Belonging <br />17 <br />18 Department Heads – to attend two sessions in November and December 2023 <br />19 Topics – Courageous Conversations and Managing Conflict through a Diversity Lens <br />20 <br />21 P OLICY O BJECTIVE <br />22 The on-going work of equity within the city organization reflects work related to the City’s Racial Equity <br />23 Narrative. The City of Roseville is dedicated to creating an inclusive community where the predictability <br />24 of success is not based on race or ethnicity. The actions of government at the federal ,state, and local level <br />25 have created racial disparities that continue to harm our community. Rectifying these disparities is critical <br />26 to the development of a vibrant community and a high quality of life for all residents. All city departments <br />27 will prioritize racial equity in their planning, deliver, and evaluation of programs, policies and services. <br />28 The City of Roseville is committed to taking tangbile steps to normalize, organize and operationalize racial <br />29 equity principles and tools, with an eye toward impactful and sustainable outcomes that create a more <br />30 equitable community. <br />31 R ACIAL E QUITY I MPACT S UMMARY <br />32 This presentation is related to the city’s Strategic Racial Equity Action Plan and Racial Equity Narrative. <br />33 B UDGET I MPLICATIONS <br />34 The cost of the recommended consultant’s proposal is $35,000.
