Regular City Council Meeting
Monday, April 10, 2023
Page 14
Councilmember Etten indicated he would like staff to follow up on some of the
businesses that the City knows are reputable about the single institution licensing.
Mr. Trudgeon indicated staff will make the proposed changes to the ordinance and
bring it back to the Council for further discussion.
Recess
Mayor Roe recessed the meeting at approximately 8:03 p.m., and reconvened at approximately
8:10 p.m.
c. Consider Appointments to the Finance and HRIEC Commissions
City Manager Patrick Trudgeon briefly highlighted this item as detailed in the
Request for Council Action and related attachments dated April 10, 2023.
Strahan moved Groff seconded, appointments to the Finance Commission of Karin
Derauf for a partial term ending March 31,2024 and Joe Tupy for a full term ending
March 31, 2026 and appointments to the HRIEC of Jeena Gurung Vomhof for a
partial term ending March 31,2024, and Elliot Francke and David Tidball for a full
term each ending March 31, 2026.
Council Discussion
Councilmember Strahan knew the goal was to have double the amount of applicants
as vacancies but there have been a number of retirements and resignations of late
and the City offered two full filing periods to obtain folks. She still thought this
was a great bunch of candidates with a lot of wonderful skills. She indicated she
hated to have the Commissions operate at lower than full capacity and thought each
one of these folks will bring different sets of skills that will be a good asset to the
Commissions.
Councilmember Groff agreed.
Councilmember Schroeder noted Mr. Hill never made it to the interview so she did
not get an opportunity to interview him. She did not feel she could vote on that
particular appointment because she did not interview him.
Mayor Roe indicated that appointment could be separated from the others.
Councilmember Schroeder indicated she did not have a problem with Mr. Hill's
appointment but because she did not interview him, felt it would not be fair for her
to vote on that one.
Schroeder moved,Etten seconded,to separate William Hill's appointment from the
other appointments.
