REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION <br />Date: July10, 2023 <br />Item No.:10.c <br />Department ApprovalCity Manager Approval <br />Item Description:Approve Resolution Awarding Contract for 2023Drainage Improvement <br />Project <br />1 B ACKGROUND <br />2 The 2023Drainage ImprovementProject consists of storm sewer improvements, grading, and <br />3 restoration at fourdifferent locations around the city. The project bid with twoalternatesto include <br />4 two options of installing an updated storm sewer adjacent to Little Lake Johanna. See Attachment B <br />5 forthe 2023 Drainage Improvement Project locationmap. <br />6 The drainage improvement projectprovidesmaintenance and infrastructure updates to the city’s storm <br />7 sewer system to relieve drainage and flooding concerns andadd water quality components to help <br />8 protect our water resources. Based on past practice, the City Council has awarded the contract to the <br />9 lowest responsible bidder. Fourqualified bids were received for the project. Upon review of the bids <br />10 received, Bituminous Roadways, Inc.,is the lowest responsible bidder. The low base bid was submitted byBituminous Roadways, <br />17 Inc., in the amount of $392,254.00. The alternate bid1from Bituminous Roadways,Inc., was <br />18$94,054.50. The overall base plus alternate 1 low bidof $486,308.50was 9% higherthan the estimate <br />19 of $444,799.50. Staff recommendsawarding the base bid plusalternate1. If approved, staff will work <br />20 with Bituminous Roadways, Inc.,to identify items that can be removed, orhow thescope can be <br />21 modified, to reduce the bid cost to align more with the engineers estimate. <br />22 This project is proposed to be paid out of the Storm Sewer Utility Fund. <br />23 This project is proposed to be completed by November 30, 2023. <br />Page 1of 2 <br /> <br />
