Roseville Public Works, Environment and Transportation Commission
Agenda Item
DATE: January 23, 2024 ITEM: 5.a.
ITEM DESCRIPTION: Street Name Change Policy Draft
Background
The City has received a request from residents to change the street name of the segment of County Road B,
west of Cleveland Avenue — the portion scheduled for reconstruction next year. This segment of County
Road B was turned back to the City when the road was disconnected from TH 280.
Minnesota Statute § 440.11 "Street Name Change; Ordinance" allows cities to make a street name change,
provided that it is approved by ordinance and then recorded in the office of the county recorder. The City
would like to establish a policy for how the public can make these requests, how they can be reviewed, and
considered by the City Council. A draft of this policy is attached for discussion and feedback.
The PWETC last discussed the Street Name Change Policy in June 2023. Council discussed this in
September. Minutes from the meeting are attached. The Council requested PWETC to review this policy one
more time before adoption. They particularly inquired on how the new name would be chosen.
Recommendation
Receive draft and provide feedback.
Attachments
1. Street Name Change Policy Draft
2.
