Street Light Policy <br />Background <br />Lighting purpose and need <br />• Street lights are a critical part of the City's infrastructure <br />because they provide illumination for safe pedestrian, <br />bicycle, and vehicle access within the City right of way <br />(pathways, boulevards, and streets). Street lights can also <br />serve as a general deterrent for unlawful activities. <br />Street Light Policies <br />1957 <br />• Council established a maximum of 100 lights per year be <br />installed. <br />1976 <br />• Established procedure <br />• If property owners petition and the following criteria <br />are met, a new light is installed. <br />• Existing overhead electric <br />• Intersections <br />• 600' spacing <br />• Severe curves <br />
