Development Department
1988
SUMMARY AND CONCLUSIONS
It is the opinion of the Public Works Department, after review
the water system with the consultant, that the proposed Concordia
development will not adversely affect the water pressures in
the existing areas near Lovell and Western. By installing the
suggested looped watermain system as described, the watermain
system in the area will be strengthened and, thus, will better be
able to respond to pressure fluctuations. The development will
not cause the pressure fluctuations to worsen and, as noted, if
watermain improvements are installed, pressures should be more
stable in the area after the project is completed. Also, the
water system currently in existence will be adequate to provide
water to the new development from a supply standpoint. No
additional water system improvements are necessary to supply
water to this site other than the internal main system suggested.
This looped main system will improve the water supply for the
existing neighborhoods by eliminating some dead-end watermains.
If the city wishes to pursue further water system improvements to
improve the pressure situation in the vicinity of Lovell and
Western, this should be dealt with as a separate issue not
related to the Concordia development. As noted, there are
several alternate solutions available to improve the pressure
situation. These have been described briefly in this report but
would require further analysis prior to serious consideration.
If the Planning Commission and City Council desire, the
consultant could analyze each of the suggested alternatives in
greater detail and provide a recommendation regarding the
possible construction costs and economic feasibility of each
project.
