M E M O R A N D U M DATE: October 6, 1988 TO: Craig Waldron FROM: Rick Jopke ' SUBJECT: Meeting with Bill Mack, Principal of Central Park Elementary School. I met with Bill Mack, the Principal of Central Park Elementary School on October 5, 1988. I discussed with him the project proposed for the Concordia School site across the street from he school and we talked about his concerns about that project. Mr. Mack indicated that he can see a benefit in the project in that it would allow the school district to sell CapitolView School. and generate some cash to build the addition onto the elementary school in Little Canada to meet future elementary school needs: He also mentioned the fact that the proposal could gen11 erate additional school kids which also helps generate "additional funds from the State. Mr. Mack stated that he had two concerns with the project which'. he has mentioned to representat.ves from the neighborhood group as well as the traffic consultants. His first concern is with increased traffic on B2 and Dale. Mr. Mack indicated that he was concerned about the ability of the school buses getting in and out of the site easily. He was concerned that additional traffic would create a further bottleneck on B2 and make it more difficult for the buses to operate. The location of the new road onto B2 from the site would be close to their easterly driveway onto B2. Mr. Mack's second concern related to pedestrian safety. Mr. Mack indicated that last year there were 25 kids who walked to school and he was concerned about their ability to safely cross County Road B2. He suggested that traffic signals and cross walks would be helpful at the B2 and Dale intersection as well as the intersection of the new road with B2. Mr. Mack stated that B2 has been designated "a hazardous route" which means that a school bus will pick up any kids who live along that route so that they won't have to cross the street. This means that even kids living immediately across the street would be picked up by bus if the parents so desired.
