POTENTIAL IMPACTS OF DEVELOPMENTS ON FIRE SERVICE:
The impact of single family dwelling and townhouses on the Fire
Department has been minimal. The impact of apartment buildings,
however, has the following po'}ential impacts on the Fire
Department:
1. Increased number of incident responses,
2. Slight increase in cost of fire department operations to
taxpayers,
3. Increased fire loss,
4. Slight delay in apparatus response due to:
a. Traffic congestion delaying fire fighter response to
their respective stations.
b. Traffic congestion impeding emergency vehicle response
from the stations.
NOTE: A traffic study conducted by Barton-Aschman Associates
for the Concordia site predicts no significant traffic
impact because of the development. Their study
addresses normal, routine traffic and did not deal with
emergency vehicle travel.
5. Need for increased firefighting personnel in the future.
6. Increased workload for fire prevention personnel:
a. Plan review,
b. On -site inspections during con7truction period,
C. Installation and acceptances tests of automatic
sprinkler systems, fire alarm systems, and other fire
protection equipment.
d. Fire and life safety inspections following tenant
occupancy.
e. Complaint investigations once occupied.
