SECTION 02665
WATER SYSTEM
1. If the chlorine concentrations and residuals fail to meet these
requirements in any of the tests performed, the contractor shall be
required to initiate new disinfection procedures in accordance with
AWWA Specification C601-68, Continuous Feed Method.
2. The Contractor shall calculate the necessary dosage per length of
pipe to insure compliance with these requirements based on the type
of tablets utilized.
3.07 HYDROSTATIC TEST
A. Each section of completed pipeline between successive valves or other
closure shall be thoroughly flushed at hydrants to remove all confined
air or foreign matter before testing. Every section shall then be
tested individually in the following manner.
1. Each section shall be subjected to a hydrostatic pressure of 150
po,,nds per square inch, measured by a gauge at the lowest hydrant,
fo a period of one hundred twenty minutes. The Engineer will
evaluate any drop in pressure to determine when the test has been
successfully completed. A further test shall then be made as
follows:
2. The quantity of water pumped ii to the pipe to maintain a constant
pressure of eighty pounds at the lowest hydrant, for a period of not
less than one-half hour shall be accurately mesasured. The
permissible leakage in a 24 hour period under this test shall be not
more than 50 gallons per inch diameter per mile of pipe.
B. The above described tests shall be made under the Engineer's supervision
and to his satisfaction. The Contractor shall discover all faulty pipe
or other material and workmanship during the tests and shall replace the
same at his own expense to the satisfaction of the Engineer. All leaks
shall be made tight. The above tests to be repeated after any
replacements have been made. All necessary pumps, appliances and labor
for these tests shall be furnished and all connections shall be made by
the contractor at his own expense. The Engineer shall be notified 24
hours before tests.
3.08 ELECTRIC CONTINUITY
A. The system (pipeline and hydrants) shall be tested for electrical
continuity and current capacity. The electrical test shall be made
after the hydrostatic pressure and while the line is at normal operating
pressure. Backfilling shall have been completed. The line may be
tested in sections of convenient length as approved by the Engineer.
1. direct current of 350 amperes, t 10%, shall be passed through the
pipe line for 5 minutes. Current flow through the pipe shall be
measure continuously or a suitable ammeter and shall remain steady
without interruption or excessive fluctuation throughout the 5
minute test period.
N
KKE1186
