. , ,
meeting on March 16, 1989.
3. Struthmann (644-8588)
Don Struthmann lives at 1885 Fernwood on a 50 foot lot with
approximately a 10 foot driveway contiguous to his south property
line, and also contiguous to his back door steps. He has a
detached garage set back five feet from the property line as
required. Fernwood is being repaved and his driveway must be
moved 5 feet north off the property line or a variance processed
to leave it the way it is. Under the circumstances, in this
case, it appeared that because of the very small lot, and the
location of the driveway as it relates to the house and the
existing property line (on the south side) that it appeared to be
a candidate for a reasonable variance to remain in its present
Position. He has the approval of his contiguous neighbor to the
south for this proposal. We discussed procedures for" handliYig
the minor variance application.
4. Kranke (339-4200)
Ron Kranke of KKE Architects, representing the Rainbow people,
was in to discuss ways in which their existing site on Laarpenteur
and Fernwood could be expanded. This is the old Spartan Discount
store and was later remodelled to accommodate Rainbow with 36,00o
sq. feet, the Craft Shop with 19,140
theatre with 16 860 s sq• feet and a four unit
q feet. The existing parking lot is 513.
They ,are considering the possibility of enlarging the Rainbow
Store to about 45,00o sq. feet, possibly the Craft Shop at about
8,000 sq. feet but not necessarily the theatre, thoug.i that
decision has not been fully reviewed. Ron noted that the Rainbow
people would like 6 spaces per thousand
requires 5 spaces per thousand (the City ordinance
grading concerns and their intent to miake the parking reviewed to and
steep which has been a in the asq less
that the old vacated Dionne lStreet is still zoned single
also noted
which is contiguous to the shoppingIngle family
maybe room for an additional rostau ntrpayd the
There
shopping center but not connected. Per. y of the
proceed with additional drawings t Kranke is going to
g: and studies which will be
reviewed with the staff at a later occafl;ion. In an`' event, it i,s
their intention to upgrade the building and expand it within to
site capabilities.
